Cincinnati State

Our tuition is among the lowest in the region with credits that may be transferred toward a bachelor's degree, saving you about half the price of the first two years at a university.

An associate’s degree can be completed in 2 years,

placing you into the workforce and starting your career sooner.

Our programs give you the training you need to start working fast and the college degree that helps you move up later. Like all Ohio programs, you’ll complete the same certified firefighter and EMT training offered at fire academies—but with added skills in leadership, communication, and critical thinking that can lead to promotions and higher pay down the line. Our strong connections with local fire departments mean many students start part-time jobs while still in school, and graduates have a 100% job placement rate.

Fire Service Technology (FST)

The associate degree prepares students for entry-level jobs in fire service as a firefighter/emergency medical technician (EMT). The program meets National Fire Protection Association standards and objectives for Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2.

Fire Service Leadership (FSTL)

The associate degree provides additional knowledge and expertise for certified firefighters, with at least four years of experience, who are interested in furthering their careers while earning an Associate of Applied Science degree.

Fire Service Certificate (FSTC)

This one year certificate provides specific education, training, and skills needed to obtain employment at a fire department. The EMT course and the Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 courses that are part of the certificate prepare students for the State of Ohio’s Certification exams.

We believe in being clear about the cost of your education. Below is the estimated cost for the Fire Service Technology (FST.AAS) major based on Fall 2026 tuition rates. It covers 5 semesters: 4 full-time, 1 part-time, and parking for 1 semester. Your payments will be spread across your studies based on the classes you take each semester.
